HVAC | HMNZS Canterbury

HMNZS Canterbury was built in 2007 by Merwede Shipyards in the Netherlands and it is a Multi Role vessel of 131 meters is owned by the Royal New Zealand Navy. It’s the first of seven new ships built for the Royal New Zealand Navy. Canterbury provides a sealift capability for the transport and deployment of equipment, vehicles and personnel, and is capable of transferring cargo and personnel ashore in benign conditions when port facilities are not available.

HVAC systems

Heinen & Hopman was responsible for the consultancy, design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of the following systems:

  • Air conditioning
  • Chilled water
  • Central heating
  • Mechanical ventilation supply
  • Mechanical ventilation exhaust
  • Ventilation plus system

Scope of supply

The following was supplied in order to built the systems for the accommodation, hull and crane:

  • 1 lot air intake systems for HVAC
  • 5 Air handling units (total capacity 62.500 m3/h)
  • 4 Humidifiers
  • 2 Chilled water units (total capacity 900 kW)
  • 1 Oil fired boiler (Total capacity 1.100 kW)
  • 38 Centrifugal fans
  • 30 Axial fans
  • 4 Explosion proof fans
  • 24 Hot water fed unit heaters
  • 6 Exhaust hoods
  • 1 Lot dampers (fire & closing)
  • 1 Lot sound attenuators
  • 1 Lot supply & extract ornaments
  • 1 Self contained unit
  • 1 Lot mist eliminators
  • 1 Lot grills
