The Royal Netherlands Navy decided to sell four frigates and replace them by four new Ocean-going Patrol Vessels with a permanent crew of 50 and accommodation spaces for another 40 non-listed crew plus the availability to accommodate 100 evacuees. These Holland class ships feature longer endurance, all-weather operability, self-sustainability, versatility, smaller crews and more economic operation at patrol speeds. The names of the four vessels are:
- P840 – Zr.Ms. Holland
- P841 – Zr.Ms. Zeeland
- P842 – Zr.Ms. Friesland
- P843 – Zr.Ms. Groningen
HVAC systems
Heinen & Hopman was responsible for the engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of the complete HVAC systems onboard these vessels. Two of the vessels were built in Romania and two were built in the Netherlands at the same time. It was a challenging task which required project management, database oriented engineering and logistics to control all material resources efficiently. Some other technical challenges include:
- Minimize the impact to the environment
- Electrical equipment to minimize the Total Harmonic Distortion of electrical HVAC&R consumers
- Vulnerability requirements for various systems
- Ammunition rooms
- Hospital facility with treatment room
- NBC filtration units
- Equipment for Thales Integrated Mast Module
