HVAC | Cutter Suction Dredger ‘Spartacus’
We’re proud to announce we’ve been awarded the contract to supply the HVAC for the world’s largest cutter suction dredger. The 164m ‘Spartacus’ will be built for DEME by Royal IHC and is expected to be delivered in the summer of 2019.
Innovative and powerful
With a total installed power of 44.180 kW ‘Spartacus’ will be the most powerful Cutter Suction Dredger that has ever been built: strong enough to cut harder soils at speeds that have not been possible before. This means that works can be taken on by the cutter dredger rather than relying on the use of dynamite and blasting. ‘Spartacus’ will be able to dredge in waters of up to 45 m, compared to the 35 m depth which is presently the upper limit in the market.
Energy saving solutions
The 164 m long ‘Spartacus’ will be the world’s first LNG-powered Cutter Suction Dredger. Other innovations onboard, such as a waste heat recovery system that converts heat from the exhaust gasses to energy used in the HVAC system, contribute to the ‘greenness’ of the ship as well. Furthermore, through LNG cold energy recovery waste energy will partially be reused to cool the chilled water.
Heinen & Hopman HVAC
The ship will be equipped with Heinen & Hopman heating, mechanical ventilation and air conditioning serving the accommodation areas and engine room.
Design conditions
The air conditioning installation was based on the following design conditions:
Summer conditions
Outside: 45˚C/47% RH or 37˚C/80% RH
Inside: 24˚C/55% RH
Winter conditions
Outside: -20˚C
Inside: 20˚C/40% RH
