Jan De Nul Group has ordered two 6,000 m3 trailing suction hopper dredgers with Keppel Singmarine shipyard. The dredgers will be in fully diesel-electric execution. All main drives, including the main propulsions are electrically driven via frequency converters. In this way each system runs at its optimal operation point, resulting in lower fuel oil consumption, and lower emissions.
Heinen & Hopman Engineering Singapore was selected to supply the air conditioning and cold room system for the dredgers.
Air Conditioning
The AC system is cooled by 2 sets x 60% capacity freshwater cooled chillers with R407 refrigerant. The air conditioning (serving the accommodation, wheelhouse and galley) is a sturdy, marine executed central air handling unit (ahu) with a galvanized casing, facilitating the mixing, filtering, heating and cooling of the air.
Refrigeration Provision System
The refrigeration provision system is operated by 2 x 100% freshwater cooled condensing units with unit cooler in each room.
Design conditions
The following design conditions for the heating and air conditioning system for accommodation spaces were requested:
Outside-Inside Summer
Outside: +45˚C/60%R.H.
Inside: +22.5˚C/50%R.H.
Outside-Inside Winter
Outside: -20˚C
Inside: +20°C
