HVAC | ESNAAD PSVs

Shipyard De Hoop was awarded the contract to deliver 10 Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). These workboats will be deployed at UAE oil and gas fields by ESNAAD, part of the ADNOC Group. ESNAAD 225 is the fifth vessel of this series delivered by De Hoop. All 10 vessels will be equipped with advanced Heinen & Hopman HVAC systems.

A challenging climate

The biggest challenge in building ships deployed in these waters is the constant heat. Engines operate most efficiently at a certain ideal temperature. When ships are deployed in hot climates, extra cooling capacity is needed for ventilation and air conditioning, cooling water and the engine room, explains Patrick Janssens, director at Shipyard De Hoop. Therefore, Heinen & Hopman installed complete HVAC systems that are resistant to outside temperatures as high as 50 ˚C. Self-contained AC units have been installed in the technical rooms (12 in each vessel). Furthermore, the engine room is equipped with engine room coolers in order to keep the engine room’s temperature at an acceptable level.

Crew accommodation comfort

The ESNAAD vessels’ living quarters are built in accordance with Lloyd’s Rules for Crew Accommodation Comfort. The climate inside the cabins is individually controllable by means of fan coil units. The ESNAAD PSVs can accommodate up to 28 persons.

100% redundant

For the air conditioning, a chilled water system is installed, consisting of a custom-built PLC controlled chiller unit containing three cool circuits (70 kW each). The fresh air unit is installed in the technical room underneath the wheelhouse. The complete AC installation is 100 % redundant. Heinen & Hopman also installed the PCP (Provision Cooling Plant) system including cold and freeze stores.
