Maritime Industry | Romania
Its location next to the Black Sea and over 1.000 km of natural border formed by the Danube River, have resulted in the development of Romania’s strong shipbuilding industry for over 160 years. With a strong development in the 1960s, when the country moved from building small vessels to large cargo ships, and later a specialization in the construction of vessel hulls that are then outfitted at other shipyards, Romanian shipbuilders have secured a strong position in the global maritime industry.
Galați is the largest port town on the Danube River and houses Romania’s largest shipyard: Damen Shipyards Galați. A large variety of ships have been delivered in Galați, such as: coast guard vessels, patrol ships/navy vessels, platform supply vessels, RoRo ships etc.
